POSITION: Legal & Company Secretariat Officer
LOCATION: Lagos
The Legal & Company Secretariat Officer is to provide legal advisory and company secretarial support for the organization’s real estate operations, ensuring compliance with property laws, corporate governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide legal guidance on contracts, corporate transactions, and internal policies.
- Review and prepare property-related agreements (e.g., sale agreements, leases, joint venture agreements).
- Support the Real Estate part of the business.
- Draft, review, and manage contracts with contractors, consultants, and vendors.
- Manage property-related disputes, including land ownership issues and tenancy matters.
- Ensure adherence to governance policies and procedures.
- Maintain statutory registers and ensure filings with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
- Manage title perfection processes, including obtaining Governor’s Consent, Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), and deed registrations.
- Process permits, approvals, and development licenses.
- Maintain a repository of contracts and legal documents.
- Track contract timelines, obligations, and renewals.
- Identify legal risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Assist in managing litigation cases and liaising with external counsel.
- Prepare case summaries, documentation, and reports.
- Monitor progress of ongoing cases and update management.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LL. B). BL qualification is required.
- ICSAN certification is an added advantage.
- Basic dispute & litigation knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian property and land laws.
- 5 years plus experience in legal practice or company secretariat role.
- Experience in corporate/commercial law is an advantage.
- Knowledge in Real Estate corporate governance & secretariat.
