AGL Tribe Celebrates New Year with Vasilopita Cake Cutting Tradition

We had our AGL Vasilopita cake cutting tradition to celebrate the New Year. Vasilopita (Greek) is directly translated as “Sweet Bread or Cake of Basil”; St. Basil, The Patron Saint of Greece. When the Vasilopita is prepared, a coin is baked into the ingredients. Sweet flavoring is added to the cake which symbolises the eternal sweetness and joy of life. The person who finds the coin in their slice of cake is said to have good luck for the rest of the year.In our AGL tradition, the Tribe member that finds the coin is expected to perform (with his or her team) beyond expectation. This is a unique AGL Tribe celebration and a wonderful way to start off the New Year.
